7 Email Marketing Tips for a Successful 2024

Email marketing isn’t rocket science, but it’s not easy either.

In this video, I want to share my top 7 email marketing tips to make things easier for you in 2024 🙂

I’ll explain about the importance of segmenting your email list, building trust, providing value, and a few other tips I think you need to know.

7 Email Marketing Tips You Need To Know In 2021

Below, I’ll also write out each tip for you with some examples 🚀

Tip #1: segment your email list

Let’s start with an important one 💪

I think one of the biggest mistakes marketers are making right now, is that they are treating everyone on their email list the same.

Everyone has different interests, struggles, and goals.

That’s why you need to segment the people on your email list, so you can send more relevant emails.

I have a full guide on segmenting your email list here, but here’s the short version:

Segmentation is identifying people their struggles, needs, and goals & putting them together in groups so you can send them more relevant emails.

There’s a lot of different ways to segment your email list.

In this article, I’ll show 3 effective methods you can use.

Tip #2: encourage people to reply

I think this is superfunnn, and for some reason not so many marketers are doing it.

Email marketing can sometimes really feel like a one-way street 🚗

Most marketers just send emails, email, emails, and hope that people will buy.

But I think if you would encourage people to reply, you can really build a relationship with that person so that it will be much more likely that they’ll become a customer 🙌

So there’s a lot of different ways you can encourage people to reply.

The simplest way is to just let people know they can respond to your emails.

Take a look at the PS of this email:

example email ps that asks people to reply

Simple, right?

But I really noticed that way more people started replying since I’m doing this.

Tip #3: focus on building trust

This is one of the biggest things I’ve learned in the last five years 🚀

Just think about it..

..if everything you do, is working towards building trust.

Then it’s going to be sooo much more likely that the people on your list will actually buy from you.

People buy from people they trust.

Keep that in mind with everything you do, and do NOT use any shitty marketing tactics like hiding your unsubscribe link, or using fake scarcity to trick people into buying.

But how do you build trust?

That’s what we’ll talk about in the next tip 🙂

Tip #4: provide value

One of the quickest ways to build trust is by providing value.

So after you have segmented your audience that I’ve told you about in tip #1, you know what someone struggles with and what their goals are.

And then, whenever you write emails, keep those things in mind.

Help people to solve their struggles, and try to help people to get closer to their goals and you will their trust.

And like I said earlier: people buy from people they trust.

So if you maybe struggle with this, or don’t know what kind of value to provide, then I have a quick exercise for you.

Grab a piece of paper, or create a new document, and complete the following sentence as many times as you can with your target audience in mind:

  • I want to help you ____________________.

For example, if I would teach online course creators to create their first course, I would write down:

  • I want to help you to come up with 10 ideas for your next course.
  • I want to help you to pick the perfect name for your next course.
  • I want to help you to price your courses right.
  • I want to help you to get your first students more engaged.
  • I want to help you to write 5 blog articles that will help you to attract the right people.
  • I want to help you to create better quality videos for your lessons.
  • I want to help you to make a living from selling your knowledge.
  • Etc.

Doing this exercise will give you soooo many ideas for articles you could write, videos you could create, and emails you could send.

And before you scroll down to the next tip, I have one more quite I’d like to share:

Make your marketing so useful people would pay you for it.

— Jay Baer

I really like to keep this in mind whenever I’m creating content.

And sometimes, inside my head, I put a price on my content.

This video & article took me, for example, hours to create.

And I’ve put some of my best tips in it.

So I think some people would pay $12 to $50 for this.

But hey, lucky you, it’s free! 😋

Tip #5: simple design

When I got started with email marketing, I wanted to have super fancy emails that looked very ‘professional’.

I wanted a header, my logo, some social media icons, the whole shebang.

But by doing that I was really hurting my business 🤕

People want to hear from other people, not from companies.

That’s why I’m using a design like this right now:

example of my current email template design lr

As you can see, it almost looks like a regular email that you would get from a friend or collegue.

I only spiced it up a bit my marking some text, and adding a photo of myself in my signature.

That’s it, nothing else 💪

This is great for deliverability because you don’t have a bunch of unnecessary links and images inside your email.

And it’s more likely that people will actually read it because it doesn’t look like an ad.

Tip #6: be consistent

Building trust with your audience is really hard if they don’t hear from you for weeks or sometimes even months.

(some people might even forget you exist completely)

That’s why being consistent is so important 💪

I’m, for example, aiming to send at least one email every Tuesday.

to keep people engaged so that whenever I have a promotion or something to sell, these people still know who I am and trust me enough to purchase my product 😇

Tip #7: automation

This might sound super techy but you have simple tools like ActiveCampaign that allow you to build out simple automations.

Inside those automations, you can basically pre-write emails and set conditions for when those will be send.

For example, you could automatically deliver a cheat sheet, and send a follow-up email as soon as the contact opens the email:

example automation of delivering a lead magnet

Or you could create a simple evergreen newsletter that automatically sends an email every week:

And there’s soooo much more possible.

You can build a whole automated sales process from the moment someone joins the list to the moment they grab their wallet 💰

Over to you

That’s it! 🚀

Now I would like to hear from you.

Which tip do you like most?

And do you maybe have a email marketing tip for others that I didn’t mention?

Hi I wanted to know if you could help me with setting up some actions in my flow. In my flow(s) I want to opt-in the zip code from the visitors and also some other information. How am I able to set that up?

Hey Molly! I’m not exactly sure what you’re trying to do. Do you want to add a zip code field to your email marketing form?
